This is a simple, meaningless, and somewhat pointless thought but I'll tell you anyways. I work at a coffee shop. I go to coffee shops. And in my four years at school, my hours at a coffee shop were from 9pm-1am. When it was studying time, thats where I went, and let me tell you...the coffee shops open during those hours are few and far between. But luckily, my roommate rubbed off and adventuring we would go to new shops that would let us stay a little longer than the normal coffee shop go-er. In these late nights I'm often struck, not by the amount but by the age of some people sitting next to me, plugging away at their work. Not to out the older generations, but it always catches me off guard. It's not impossible no for someone in the older generations to be up until 1am doing their school work and having great conversation with someone.
I work at a coffee shop. I get up at 4:40am. Not for any reason other than to be awake and more ready for conversation when I actually get to work at 5:30. (if you know me well you know mornings are not my favorite but I'm working on it.) I get to work and there are the few people who come in every day. Tom, who sells ribbons out of the back of his truck. A few teachers, Matt who gets the same americano every day. The man who will refuse to tell you his name but just wants his oatmeal and is happy when you know just that. A few students here and there, who probably watched the sun go down and come up again without giving their tired eyes a rest. And then there's just the people who like getting up early. I'm trying to understand them.
All this to say is that bed times really don't mean anything when it comes to age. We just assume it does.
