Homesick

I'm homesick for that feeling of fall.  When it smell of fresh cut firewood, cool afternoons and thunderstorms.  When the sun sets and its just as silent as can be and everyone in the house is in a sleepy nostalgic mood.  When the rain comes and you can hear it pattering on the roof for hours.  And every time you step outside it's like you've walked into the most magical world.  So you leave the doors open just to savor the smell.

Homesick for when dad starts cooking chili and mom's on the couch reading.  For when we all sit at the table eating warm food until we're full and then we enjoy the fireplace until warmth and full stomaches send us to bed.

Homesick for walks down the street when it's just the right time of year and al those summer crazies have gone home and the winter bums haven't come yet and you feel as if there is no one else but the three other people you live with in the world.  And of course your dog.

Homesick for when the thumping of your dogs tail means that you're close and he's grateful enough to give you a little hug and lay next to you at night.

Homesick for my family.  And our home.
