When I left school about a week ago (which seems like forever ago) my goal was to read all my friends favorite books this break. Or maybe not their favorite books but one of their top books. I had already started reading my friend Tyler's book, which was The Magicians Nephew by C.S. Lewis, so I decided to start with that. As I was reading the magic of the story opened my mind to so many new thoughts. This is the beginning of the Chronicles of Narnia when Aslan is creating Narnia. As I read I got lost in the words and creation consumed me. When I was finished the only thought on my mind was God's creation. I had just read the creation of a world for children's imagination and it can only be said in so many ways with so many descriptions. But what about when God was creating? If you could ask Him, how do you think he would describe it? Because I dont think that we can begin to understand the beauty and wonder in God's creation. And that, to me, is fantastic. It says that there is never an end to God's beauty, or a chance to catch a glimpse of it.
After I finished the book by Lewis I started reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, one of Mitch's favorites. This book is the story of a boy who is autistic, Christopher, who goes through a series of events in which we are able see how things work in his mind when he does not know how to define emotions. In the book he describes an adventure that Sherlock Holmes once took and he says that when Holmes solves a mystery he states, " The world is full of obvious things which no body by any chance ever observes." Which of course reminded me of the first book.
We miss a lot when we simply go through our day. As Mitch would put it...appreciate the ordinary. Things may not seem beautiful or special but God created them and in that there is more beauty then we can fathom.
